company <i>standard</i> build of software, including Outlook. (01)
The problem for any distributed organization is always to find the
compromise between what is technically superior and what is affordable
(given the constraint that you have to justify the differences to
management - see Dilbert for details). The history of technology is
littered with forgotten standards which lost out to de facto standards. (02)
Thus, while it may be annoying that some of us don't use software based
on 'professional standard', it is also a reminder that ontology could go
the same way, and that the semantic web may well be dominated by the
first ontology that is good enough, where 'good enough' means
'profitable for a set of companies with significant web presence'. (03)
