David --    (01)

I'm not a KR professional, just someone who is strongly interested in
what the many smart folks in KR know. I was just trying to point out
that people *outside* KR may require a bit of re-education.    (02)

I have spent a lot of time in "knowledge management" -- a fuzzy-edged
domain in which the term _knowledgebase_ crops up frequently and with
many different definitions. KM people can't even agree on the meaning of
_knowledge_.    (03)

Part of the problem, I suspect, is that the phrase _knowledge-based
systems_ (from KR) morphed into _knowledgebase_ for many in KM. Others
in KM simply thought the term was cool and expropriated it ... sans
original sens.    (04)

A search for _knowledgebase_ on Google suggests that the number of
different definitions of the term may approach infinity.    (05)

However, it is good to see the term occasionally used at least in a
sensible (if still rather imprecise) manner outside of KR -- for
example, in tools that support deconstruction of meaning into nodes and
[typed] relationships.    (06)
