Read Roald Hoffmann's "The Same and Not the Same" before beginning.
It will save you a lot of work before talking to SMEs. SMEs will have
lots of distinctions, yes, and a lot of them will confuse the issue --
I was thru this process 9 years ago on a biochemical pathway project. (04)
Hoffmann goes a long way toward explicating the issues of chemical
ontology -- specifically there is a chapter on "chemical identity".
