In response to Peter Brown's question "Could someone sum up where this thread
is going? " and comment "Or is it just a philosophical stroll in the park "    (01)

Pat offered a dog analogy for thinking of philosophers, thus avoiding the half
empty herding cats metaphor, and allowing philosphers to be our (half full)
best friends (dogs).    (02)

But I wonder if that does justice to a thread that started, I believe,
with,Waclaw Kusnierczyk writing (At 08:34 AM 6/8/2007) :    (03)

The discussion would certainly be made clearer if one could support the    (04)

claims with a simple example; e.g., **two ontologies that taken together    (05)

are inconsistent, which cannot be reduced to a single consistent    (06)

ontology, and which both are necessary to cover the needs for all    (07)

involved in modeling the domain.**    (08)

We then proceeded to a long discussion on continuant and occurrents and then
into metaphysics.    (09)

So what about the initial question?    (010)

I'm sorry that it should have given you this impression, as this is
exactly what I wanted to avoid. Here's my elevator summary: ontology
engineers should think of philosophers like dogs. They are
intelligent and useful if you feed them and treat them well, but you
have to keep them on a leash, train them thoroughly to obey your
instructions, and not let them form a pack, or they get out of
control and can become dangerous.    (016)
