John,
A wiki environment as you suggest is one example, already widely researched
However a wiki is, in my view, still primarily a 'repository', not an 'ontology' As such, I am interested in understanding the relationship between the architecture of a respository (say, a wiki type of tool) and the ontology itself (the repository independent part of the ontology, vocabularies, relationships and concepts, for example)
In particular, I am interested in hearing about how a repository architecture may, or may not, meet the formalization requirements and how it may or may not influence the contents of the ontology itself

Hi Pat, Peter
thanks for pointers to current discussions, and thanks for the clarification
(sorry I have been out of the loop)
In catching up I understand that the discussion is about 'ontology
repository', which is great and makes sense, thanks - O(Or)
right?
But I dont understand why
. I don't think it makes sense to refer to an ontology
as being open (or not).
why not?
a repository is only a repository, and debating its opennes is interesting
but
an open ontology, as in 'collaboratively deleveloped, adaptive, transforming,
accessible, usable, multifaceted ontologies are key challenges
to ontology engineering , and open repositories are only an aspect
looking at the repository as being the answer to the opennes of an ontology
is trivialising
the collective intelligence aspef of ontology engineering, which in my
view comes before
the repository aspect is discussed

My early take linked below, I would be happy to share notes on the work
done in this last year, as well as to hear how the work of this summit
is related or differs to the points below
