I think I see your point, and I am glad you are making it

I think you maybe meant that the internet is the largest knowledge base (or source of unstructured knowledge)
that (especially in this community) does not equate to 'ontology', which refers more to the knowledge structure and representation

E.g. Lotfi Zadeh's Precisiated Natural Language PNL
is all about using the internet as the source of
knowledge, and turning it into a formalized form.
This way, the naturally evolving internet contains
similar sort of information than that what is
inserted into Cyc by hand.

have you got pointers to that? (I can always do a search)
