It surprises me not-at-all that a simple question can generate so much discussion. Here is Yet Another Point of View (YAPOV):
> Hi all, I am having some troubles explaining the difference between a DB and a knowledge base, can someone let me know the difference?
There is no fundamental difference. They are both data stores/repositories that are designed for difference purposes, to meet different needs.
Objectively, there is a marked difference in which the bit-patterns (data) are structured to record information. This structuring is done to facilitate certain
kinds of computational processes, e.g., transaction processing versus inferencing/reasoning.
There is nothing “special” about knowledgebases vis-à-vis databases. Typically, the term “knowledgebase” refers to a data store that is used for, or intended
to be used for, reasoning or analytics.
