Thanks for the clarification and the reference to the tutorial.
You discussed John Wilkin's book. Last year I discovered it. It's amazing
how such a book could be made in those days.
Gellish is a bigger ontology and language (maybe you could see it as a
revised and extended version of it) and if I would have known him, I would
have honored him in my PhD on Gellish. (02)
Originally Gellish was developed as a generic data model. Data modelers are
generally not aware that a data model is in fact a kind of primitive
language definition and that that is the cause of the huge data integration
problems. That is also the reason why it took time before Gellish developed
in the direction of CNL's. (03)
I thought that there is a reasonable consensus that one concept can be
represented by various signs/terms as synonyms and translation. We make use
of that distinction by representing anything by a unique identifier (UID)
and denoting it in various languages and language communities by (synonym)
terms or phrases and their translations. (04)

If I had known of it, I would certainly have discussed it. But when I
presented that talk in 2009, I had never heard of it. The main source
for CNLs at that time was the CNL Home Page by Rolf Schwitter. It's
a pity that the Gellish developers/users were disjoint from the rest
of the CNL community at that time. (010)

I agree that the uses you cite are very important for practical
applications. In fact, the title of my talk was "Controlled Natural
Languages for Semantic Systems". The applications I discussed are
along the lines you mention. (012)
But I also wanted to emphasize the use of CNLs as a bridge between
human languages and formal languages. That is why they are good for
the applications you address. (013)
