Since you contrast "concept" and "definition" from "thingy", i interpret
"thingy" to mean "language phrase". (02)
Cyc has been making this distinction and showing multiple definitions for
the same word or phrase for over 15 years. It distinguishes linguistic
components from the classes, relations, and individuals which they may
denote. A single word/phrase may denote multiple terms in the ontology
and a single term in the ontology may be denoted by multiple words and/or
phrases. E.g.,
(denotation Bank-TheWord Noun 0 RiverBank)
(denotation Bank-TheWord Noun 1 Bank-FinancialInstitution)
(denotation Bank-TheWord Noun 2 BankBuilding)
(denotation Bank-TheWord Verb 0 BankingAFire)
(denotation Bank-TheWord Verb 1 BankingAVehicleInMotion)
(denotation Bank-TheWord Verb 2 BankingInAFinancialInstitution)
(multiWordString "river" Bank-TheWord Noun 0 RiverBank)
(multiWordString "bank" Building-TheWord Noun 0 BankBuilding)
