Len hopefully by writing a critique of this paper you can contribute to the opening up of the subject its hard to find the words to express such concepts 'right' it still makes some good arguments i think there is wheat and chaff mixed in most literature, especially these days that publishing is becoming relatively easier we must become more critical Quickly read through Overton's paper seems very precious, illustrations are great too (wonder if I should check if any international agency holds any information file warning about the beliefs and opinions of this author on other facts of life just to be on the safe side) quote In this target article, I explore the thesis that both the natural and human sciences are undergoing--however gradually and reluctantly--a deep and broad paradigm shift. This shift is away from foundational, objectivist, atomist, nondirectional mechanistic category systems and toward interpretational, holistic, relational-dialectical, direc- tional organic category systems. The contextual influence of each of these category systems on understandings of change (development), cognition, and personality is examined both historically and from a contemporary perspective across a wide band of scientific disciplines. It references, among lots of other work, also Phenomenologie des Geistes, Hegel, (page 11) which is a 700 pages tome I found by chance around Christmas together with history of mathematics another 700 pages (santa klaus?) I had to leave them behind cause to heavy to carry (especially on camelback) In German Geist translates both into Mind/Spirit making the translation of the title to English somehow a partial, possibly limiting, semantic choice Solid stuff to ponder thanks for posting P P On Thu, Jan 21, 2010 at 8:57 PM, Len Yabloko <lenyabloko@xxxxxxxxx> wrote: Paola, -- Paola Di Maio ************************************************** “Logic will get you from A to B.
