We have to agree that Whole is more than sum of parts
such as life which generally obeys physics, chemistry etc. For example if a
creature (non flying) falls down, it has to suffer consequences of acceleration
due to gravity thus life may be lost but not the constituent matter. Thus in
some philosophies the consciousness is the continuum that binds it all living
or non-living! How will that fit into realism, nominalism or reductionism or
will it be excluded by those - by limiting our understanding to living or
non-living matter - who have not followed that line of reasoning?
Chris, note that Ravi
took no insult because he has projected none onto what I wrote. You projected
my statements, especially the “You’re going to insult him…?”
which insult he very obviously doesn’t share.
Or am I wrong in my opinion, Ravi? If I am wrong, and I have offended you, I most
certainly do apologize, but my theory is that felt no offense whatsoever. If
there was any shade of insult in my statements, please be advised I would
prefer to know immediately because I so rarely lose emotional control like that.
My reply to the charge of insult therefore follows
in the section below where I reply to Chris. This reply is for both of you,
but you may not be interested in Chris’s projections, so don’t feel
bad about continuing your own interests in this thread.
Chris, I’m changing the thread topic
to “Projections of Personalities” after the next message below.
Thanks for any replies and comments,
-Rich

Chris Menzel
I apologize to Azamat and Chris, and
anyone else who thinks I meant that statement seriously. On the west
coast here, that's a kind of conversational joke, not a serious accusation or
insult. No insult, no accusations intended to hurt anyone, at least by
me. I consider every person on this list a friend, and if my language
seems insulting, please forgive that interpretation. That's not what I
meant. I have only the best wishes for my friends on this list.
Sorry,
-Rich
