Thank you, Nancy.    (01)

All,    (02)

I'm moving Nancy's input over to this thread (see below).
Great input, Nancy! My personal take is as follows:    (03)

> [NF] A number of organizations have decided using KM, data mining,
> knowledge capture for decision support is a good idea. Can we pitch the
> OKMDS initiative as a "further enhancement" of those efforts? Perhaps
> easier to push a moving car along if it's already in motion.    (04)

[ppy] I totally agree. Maybe to paraphrase that thought is to include
into the charter, somewhere, among others, that we are pursuing the
answer to the question as to: "How can we leverage ontologies to help
improve knowledge management, and in so doing, allow organizations to
making better decisions?"    (05)

> [NF] With two big initiatives, Second Life and Ontologies to enhance decision

[ppy] Steve did bring up, during our first organizing committee
meeting, that serious use of "virtual worlds" is possibly a bit early
now, which I tend to agree. That said, I'm sure (myself included) that
enough people in our communities would enjoy "getting their feet wet"
given this opportunity.    (07)

I see the effort to featuring our mini-series events in both "real
world" (augmented conference calls, archived mailing lists, wiki
pages, podcast, etc.) and "virtual world" (SecondLife) setting as
being the two presentation (and knowledge capture) vehicles that we
had decided to employ. The focus of the initiative should still be
*Ontology* (ontologies, ontological engineering, etc.) and "Ontology
in Knowledge Management and Decision Support."    (08)

That's my personal view on the matter. Maybe we haven't had enough of
a chance to discuss this thoroughly enough even among the organizing
committee members. If anyone feels that we are not fully aligned,
let's discuss this further here, and update our charter (objectives
paragraph) so that it becomes clearer to both ourselves and to the
communities we are taking this initiative to.    (09)

Thanks and regards. =ppy

Is there a segment on this program from NASA mentioning the okmds initiative?    (012)

And for the charter, I had some thoughts.    (013)

* A number of organizations have decided using KM, data mining,
knowledge capture for decision support is a good idea. Can we pitch
the OKMDS initiative as a "further enhancement" of those efforts?
Perhaps easier to push a moving car along if it's already in motion.    (014)

* With two big initiatives, Second Life and Ontologies to enhance
decision support, I wonder if we can clearly explain both? Or should
we concentrate on one? Or one at a time? Is our audience current
practitioners so there is less of a learning curve?
