All,
It may be useful to note that the shift in focus is from what a system IS to
what a system DOES.
Net-centric emphasized the happenings among the things. This is where the whole
systems community is evolving, particularly toward intelligent autonomy for
coping with non-deterministic situations.
Accordingly ontology which focuses on things rather than on happenings MUST be
broadened to include the recitation of the permissible interrelations of the
things. Classes vs. Types. Probably we need to seriously consider Weinberg’s
perspective that relationships (operators) are things, too. Then we can
leverage perspective shift.
