[ppy] ... Not trying to be defensive here, but thanks for providing
the chance to explain why we had this 3rd set - the Real-Time Delphi
Study on the Future of Ontologists, their Education and the Field of
Ontology (03)
As described under:
http://ontolog.cim3.net/cgi-bin/wiki.pl?OntologySummit2010_Survey#nid28DS
In this set, "being practical" wasn't part of the intent. While no one
can really predict the future, a collective vision of "those who
should know better" might just help us get a glimpse of what is in
store for us in the future. (04)
As Alan Kay put it: "The best way to predict the future is to invent
it." ... we are hoping that each of us here (as members of the expert
panel in this RTDelphi study) can put our visionary hat on for a
little bit, and share what future they *are* trying to invent for this
field ... and, the collection of those thoughts may converge (or
polarized, or whatever, ... we don't know until we are able to collect
the thoughts) and should, at the least, be interesting to this
community. (05)
> ... did not think the questions were particularly good. (06)
[ppy] they weren't supposed to be "questions" as much as they are
statements to elicit reactions to "developments" of significance. The
"developments" were essentially culled from an earlier community
session we had (OntologySummit2010: Panel Session-1) - see:
http://ontolog.cim3.net/cgi-bin/wiki.pl?OntologySummit2010_FutureDevelopments_Synthesis#nid25HJ (07)
Please just treat them as the issues that are framing the discussion,
and the input boxes as the workspaces to which one may post their
comments (in lieu of making mailing list posts to specific threads.) (08)
Thank you for your input. Really appreciate it. Do consider going in
again, to review your responses and others' as they start to
accumulate, and possibly tweak your opinion (as you deem fit) any time
before the close of the study. (09)
Thanks & regards. =ppy (010)
P.S. apologies for the user interface (which, recognizably, has room
for improvement) ... but it's the content (and not the form) that is
important. =ppy
