Thanks for these two links.  I found them both fascinating and inspiring.

Giancarlo Guizzardi is a poet as well as a philosopher and a scientist.  He has a brilliant instinct for simple articulate clarity.

He cites this poem in his beginning:

The Things (Arnaldo Antunes, 1993)

The things have weight,

mass, volume, size,

time, shape, color,

position, texture, duration,

density, smell, value,

consistency, depth,

boundaries, temperature,

function, appearance, price,

fate, age, significance.

The things have no peace.

And then – his entire thesis addresses this charming concern with high precision and balance….

“In summary, the position defended here subscribes to Mylopoulos.

dictum (Mylopoulos, 1992) that .[t]he adequacy of a conceptual modelling

notation rests on its contribution to the construction of models of reality that promote

a common understanding of that reality among their human users..”

Subject: [ontolog-forum] The "qua-entities" paradigm

Hello all,

Sorry if this was already discussed, but I found the approach proposed by Giancarlo Guizzardi, very interesting. He explores the ontological meta-property called "rigidity" for providing an ontological foundation for his approach.

His approach can be found here.

"Agent Roles, Qua Individuals and The Counting Problem"

His approach was included in the so called Unified Foundational Ontology (UFO), which is presented here.

"Ontological foundations for strcutural conceptual models"

Best regards.
