No.  Go do your homework.  It may be that some computer
implementations do a comparison.  But the perception of
contrast is the foundation for detecting what is being
perceived -- both in computer perception and in perception
by all animals.  That detection is prior to retrieving
any background information or even the percepts used
in perception.    (04)
