Right. But the difference is that the one above (1) refers to a public, published source (2) is pithy and grammatical, and (3) is accurate, according to established usage. In particular, it refers, crucially, to a "statement, discourse or theory" which the d.of d. is the domain of.
1. "universe or domain", the object of study, also subject matter, content, matter, or reference class, the set of all entities to be assumed or described, as ontological universe, mathematical universes, physical universes, social domains or technological domains. If we are arguing here just to argue, that's fine, for we learn to reason by reasoning. But the Forum dedicated itself to some high cause and activity, which seems increasingly drenching by offhand debates.
This whole subthread exists only because you "corrected" a brief explanatory note I inserted to draw attention to the fact that this phrase was a technical one with an accepted specialized meaning.
OK, no more from me on domains of discourse.

Me too. Look at the Date: 1881. It is clear that Wikipedian should cite the inventor.
Probably Charles Saunders Pierce, given the date and the fact that whoever wrote it was writing in English rather than German. Also the choice of the word "discourse" has a Piercian ring to it.
BTW, Googling "domain of discourse" and C. S. Pierce located this gem:
which all the SWeb-bashers out there should read :-)
