I find myself in profound agreement with both Azamat and
John, even though Azamat says he needs to change John's mind. (01)
Everybody is deeply correct *except* when they confuse what
they say with reality, even if what they mean *is* reality.
When we confound our expressions with reality, we get
"trapped in our metaphors" as Joseph Campbell so wisely put it. (02)
Anyone who claims that there is only one truth may, in fact,
be right. (Personally, I think he *is* right, but that's a
religious statement.) But as soon as he claims to have
*expressed* truth that operates outside the terms of its
expression, he is certainly wrong. Expressions exist in one
kind of reality, and reality (outside the realities of
expressions) is another kind of reality. The gulf between
the two realities is not bridged by logical expressions,
even if we know of no truth-revealing tool more powerful
than logic. (03)
It's not bridged by this note, either. But wetware is magic
stuff; it can sometimes use expressions as tickets for trips
across the chasm. (04)
