FWIW, there has been some interesting work on interval algebras for
circular time. Turns out that there are 16 (rather than 13) possible
interval relations on a circle, and they have a very elegant group
structure. Moreover, the standard 'time line' is simply the circle
with one point missing (the point at infinity), which rules out 4 of
the relations and splits one of the remaining 12 into two cases:
hence the peculiar number (13) of interval relations on a line. It
also of course ruins the lovely symmetry of the circle. (03)
