Adam,
   Thanks for that example of using a common ontology.  Real-world
examples like that help a lot to make these discussion realistic.
   I wasn't specific enough in my question.  I was curious if anyone
has tried the alternative of trying to finesse the N^2 problem by
taking two ontologies already mapped to each other, and then mapping to
only one of them, and testing compatibility to the indirectly mapped
one.  That would be another valuable real-world example, if anyone had
the courage to attempt it.    (01)
