Here is a good example of the need for a location where users can note results, pro and con, of using the (v.1) communique. Or do you intend that this list be the place?
It is important to capture whether the data is the opinion of the 'ontologist' vs. the opinion of the 'prospect.'

This whole section should be removed from the communique.

The points are contentious and likely to result in people who have funding control being turned off

The communique is supposed to represent the thoughts of the collective and throwing in individual observations is probably not a good thing.

Point 1:
No one wants to invest in a technology that is a decade or 2 from being relevant. This is not likely even true.
Point 2:
Who cares what benefits machines get.
Point 3:
Why start a war with the guys that control the IT infrastructure? This statement is a highly contentious generalization and probably not defensible and is only going to piss off the people with whom we need to cooperate in order to get anything done.
It will be used as evidence that the group has no understanding of IT and business.

Ontology is a new paradigm.    (2T0D)

We believe that a new paradigm is emerging that will take a decade or two to become mainstream. This is illustrated by the following quotes from the summit participants.    (2T0E)

"Ontology does for machines what the World Wide Web did for people."    (2T0F)

"Ontology promises to be the driver for the next paradigm shift. If you think personal computing, and the Internet have been disruptive, wait and see what Ontology can bring about."    (2T0G)

"Everything in IT up till now has been about technology first and business a distant second. But semantic and ontological technology are different - there are explicitly, fluidly and directly about the core of our business - which is the work of our business. No other technology has ever really been primarily about the work of business."    (2T0H)

It looks we have here a complete endorsment campaign :-).
Trusting that the Communique should have its maximum supporters, i asked Steve of the following:
"Steve,
Somehow i missed its creation (and possibly many others).
Just wonder if its key theses are  cast-iron, and the content could be only endorsed.
I am ready to support all the good works done, but the Communique could be bettered in regard of its content and political publicity."
The answer is still pending...
Thanks

Yes, indeed, Michael! In fact, in the past many of our Communique endorsers could not participate in the Symposium, and some not in the Summit. But they read the Communique and agreed to endorse.

So please, everyone, read over the Communique, and if you agree with it, please endorse it.

Thanks much,

Leo

Leo,

Can someone endorse the communique if they had nothing to do with it, but they see and agree with it?

All,

May we suggest to you all that you visit the communiqué and then register your endorsement? This includes all the editors, track champions, contributors over the past 3 months, and participants in the symposium, and your bases.

See the Communique at: http://ontolog.cim3.net/cgi-bin/wiki.pl?OntologySummit2011_Communique.

Express your endorsement by please emailing <peter.yim@xxxxxxxx> with the statement "I endorse the Ontology Summit 2011 Communiqué (v1.0)" to confirm your endorsement.

Thanks!

Leo
