But I'd like to emphasize that the *idea* of using lattices has
an enormous range of practical implementations.  And I'd strongly
urge people to relate their implementations and proposals for
implementations to these theoretical ideas.    (03)

Such exercises can have two important results:    (04)

  1. Encouraging implementers to develop their tools in ways
     that are guided by general principles that may lead to
     important generalizations and avoid pitfalls and dead ends.    (05)

  2. Encourage theoreticians to look for theories that have
     important practical applications that can be implemented
     with a minimal amount of extra coding.    (06)
