I would just add to Peter's caution that it is obvious to many of us that
there is a choice to be made between consistency/decidability and
representational capability (many choices, in fact). A journeyman knowledge
engineer will use the tools that are most appropriate for the job. Part of
the body of knowledge will be an understanding of the capabilities and
limitations of various approaches.
To that latter end, some of this conversation has been quite helpful to me,
especially Ian's carefully worded expositions.
I'd like to see that it is kept helpful and informative, and I can always
learn more about CL, Cyc, RDF and other alternatives to OWL 2 and DL. John
Sowa always seems to have a link to interesting material in his posts.
