I have heard of Ed Buchinski and may be
meeting with him later this week. I will be heading out to his office to
meeting with an IM analyst and a mystery person (Ed?) who works on Ontologies.
Right now I’m scoping out what’s
going on the in government, especially in financial information. My view is
that terminology must be standardized across government for so many and varied
reasons, namely handling/enabling quick access to large data sets and putting
into action this vision of Open Data that’s coming out of Washington and
will likely make its way here as well.
If you know of any open ontologies, I have
an Inventory that I’ve created on the Government of Canada Wiki (GCPEDIA…closed
outside government) and I’d like to collect as many as possible.

member / observer
Bonjour Aussi Elizabeth!
I am also Canadian (Vancouver)
and on this list for years. I have done some presentations back east in Ottawa for the government
on this topic and we are grateful to have you here! Ed Buchinski
(Treasury) had me come out to do a 3 day workshop on registry-repository work
for semantics/ontological research.
Best wishes and welcome!
PS – go Canucks!

I have just joined ONTOLOG as an observer and I am interested in
learning more about Ontology development, particularly in regards to Business
My professional background includes 12 years of combined experience in
the high tech industry and government libraries. During my MLIS I specialized
in electronic information management. I also hold a BA in Linguistics, with a
focus in Theoretical Linguistics (Semantics.)
I’d be interested in hearing from others in the Government of
Canada and people working in Finance/Treasury Departments worldwide.
