Thanks, all, for the many comments and proposed topics. I would underscore Peter’s suggestion that people who are interested in chairing or participating in
sessions, please place their own suggestion(s) either within the emerging program framework or tweak that framework. The current state of our series is at the wiki page Peter created:
http://ontolog.cim3.net/cgi-bin/wiki.pl?EarthScienceOntolog/GettingOrganized. You can also add your ideas directly to the wiki at
http://ontolog.cim3.net/cgi-bin/wiki.pl?EarthScienceOntolog/GettingOrganized#nid3D77, so that we capture all suggestions and begin to plan this out.
Krishna and I will come up with a short mission statement for mini-series soon, and begin to flesh out the first session, currently entitled “Value Proposition
of Ontology and Semantic Technology for the Earth Science Community".
Here’s some initial thoughts:
At our first planning session, Krishna thought it very important that the Geo-Science community and the Ontology/Semantics community come together and begin
to understand each other better. So this first session could probably have some geo-scientists discussing needs, use cases, etc., from their perspective, i.e., what are the problems facing the Geo-Science community, e.g., data access and discovery isssues,
impeding terminology differences, changing collaboration models, etc. Then some ontologists/semantic technologists could respond to those issues and offer what they see as the value proposition to Geo-Science. This kind of discussion (joined in by the session
participants in Q&A and in chat) could lay the foundation for the remaining sessions, give us all some initial common understanding.
What do people think? If this seems reasonable, we would like to have some panelists from both communities: Geo-Science and Ontology/Semantics. Volunteers and
suggestions are most welcome.
Thanks,
Leo

That sounds great, Krzysztof ... would you consider fitting that content into the program framework as we have it so far (ref my earlier msg today on this thread), or tweaking that framework to allow a better fit?

Dear all,
if this would be interesting, I could organize a session on semantic
