Why is OpenVista selected as a preferred tool? I don't recall that the
Ontolog forum engaged in any significant discussion of that tool -- I
have no familiarity with it. Should we be promoting one tool over
others as an Ontolog position at this point, especially without careful
evaluation by the group? (01)

Subject: [health-ont] Abstract due Monday: FCW 1st Government Health IT
Conference-Nov. 17-18 (04)
Dear Fellow health-ont mailing list subscribers, (05)
First, I should apologize that I did not check to
see if I was subscribed to this list before i
tried to post it Friday. I sent it to Marc and
the list, and Marc has since agreed to be the
presenter for this should our abstract be
accepted. Then, please accept my apologies for
missing Thursday's Ontolog Forum meeting. I was
caught in a Doctor's appointment for a treadmill
ekg that took longer than anticipated. (06)
Lastly, since today is the deadline, I will
update this document later this morning and
suggest that Marc add anything to it that suits
him and submit the abstract today. (07)
Now, Thanks to Marc Wine for accepting the
invitation to participate in our Panel Discussion
Aug. 25, 2005. I look forward very much to your
participation. (08)
Third, and the specific topic of this message, we
would like very much to provide an abstract for
the Federal Computer Week First Government Health
IT Conference focused on the Panel Discussion and
including Marc Wine as our presenter, with
perhaps Mark Musen as an additional presenter
(see below). (09)
I realize that our time is short since the
deadline is Monday, so I am providing a strawman
abstract as part of this message, attached and
posted as part of the prep page for the Aug. 25
Panel Discussion. (010)
If you visit the abstract submission page for the
event
http://www.e-gov.com/event_planning/cfp.asp?Conference=107 (011)
you will see that there is provision for an
additional presenter, and I believe it would be
very appropriate if Mark Musen could take on that
task to support Marc Wine and provide some added
context to the topic of how ontological
approaches and tools, such as Protégé, can add
significant value to the effort to standardize
electronic healthcare records. (012)
In any event, I have made a quick, rough first
stab at the abstract, but it needs to be filled
out. Also, I spoke to Bob Smith this morning, and
he while his ability to receive email is spotty,
he can't send, so we need to bear that in mind.
He gave me his take on this, and I will try to
capture it later, after the two meetings I have
this morning. (013)
Please take a look at this and if you can give it
some thought and get back to the list or edit the (014)
GovHealthITConferenceAbstract page directly,
http://ontolog.cim3.net/cgi-bin/wiki.pl?GovHealthConferenceAbstract (015)
I would deeply appreciate it. (016)
Sorry for the mix up yesterday,
Rex
