Track Champions,
In preparation for tomorrow's 'Big' Communique session,
I have the following requests.
0) Please update your Track's Synthesis page with
your communique contribution, if you haven't already
done so.
1) Please review the other Tracks Synthesis pages with
an eye towards melding your communique contribution
with the others (in the context of the draft outline).
Tomorrow session will start the process of weaving together
all the Track's contributions. Given the breadth of this
year's summit, no easy feat. So, if you have a bit of
understanding of the other Track's communique contribution
it will speed the process up.
Thank you.
Todd

You are invited to join us this Thursday at the OntologySummit2012
virtual panel session-12, where our Communique co-lead editors
facilitate us, as a community, to review how we would want to frame
the message of the communique, review the input from each of the
tracks, as synthesized from the focused discourse over the last couple
of months or so.
Our target is to get to an 'almost final' communique draft that will
be made available for community review/comment between April-3 and
April-8; which will then allow us to have a final draft before the
start of Ontology Summit 2012 Workshop and Symposium on Thursday
12-April-2012, when the communique will be finally reviewed and
adopted.

This is our 7th Ontology Summit, a joint initiative by ONTOLOG, NIST,
NCOR, NCBO, IAOA & NCO_NITRD with the support of our co-sponsors. The
theme adopted for this Ontology Summit is: "Ontology for Big Systems."
The principal goal of the summit is to bring together and foster
collaboration between the ontology community, systems community, and
stakeholders of some of "big systems." Together, the summit
participants will exchange ideas on how ontological analysis and
ontology engineering might make a difference, when applied in these
"big systems." We will aim towards producing a series of
recommendations describing how ontologies can create an impact; as
well as providing illustrations where these techniques have been, or
could be, applied in domains such as bioinformatics, electronic health
records, intelligence, the smart electrical grid, manufacturing and
supply chains, earth and environmental, e-science, cyberphysical
systems and e-government. As is traditional with the Ontology Summit
series, the results will be captured in the form of a communique, with
expanded supporting material provided on the web.
The general format of the Ontology Summit comprises of a series of
both virtual and face-to-face activities that span about 3 months
(January through March or April each year). These activities include a
vigorous three-month online discourse on the theme of the Summit,
virtual panel discussions, research activities, and so on, which will
culminate in a two-day face-to-face workshop and symposium at NIST in
Gaithersburg, Maryland, USA on April 12 & 13, 2012. Each year, we
collaboratively author and publish a Summit Communique to offer a
message from the Summit participants to the world-at-large as a
signature activity of the Ontology Summit series.
These sessions, like all Ontolog virtual events, are open and free of
charge. Anyone who is interested, or (better still) who may have
something to contribute, is welcome. Please refer to event details on
the session pages, to which the hyperlink is given above, where you
will find session agenda, conference call dial-in, slides and other
pertinent information. Feel free to forward this invitation along to
colleagues (or your own community mailing lists) who may also find
these sessions to be of interest.
*RSVP* by emailing Peter Yim at <peter.yim@xxxxxxxx> offline (or add
yourself directly to the session page if you are already an Ontolog or
Ontology Summit community member) so that we can prepare enough
resources to support everyone. [Please state clearly the date of the
session you are registering for in your email.] ... All respondents
will be subscribed (if they aren't already so) to the
[ontology-summit] mailing list so they are participate in the virtual
discourse.
These sessions will be recorded and made available in a publicly
accessible archive. Therefore, before participating, please make sure
you are cognizant of our IPR policy (ref:
http://ontolog.cim3.net/cgi-bin/wiki.pl?WikiHomePage#nid32 ).
