Rommel,

I think you have the right idea. Go for it.

Subject: Re: [ontology-summit] Standard way to define URIs in ontologies for the SW

Hi Arun,

I was looking more for naming conventions for using when defining a specific URI. For instance, what should I put in "path/to/uri" when defining a term in the ontologies defined in my agency, for instance "www.agency.gov/path/to/uri".

Thanks,

Rommel

Hi,

While the W3C is a consortium, it is not an approved standard in the sense of international ISO.

I recommend, therefore, that you look at the ISO 24707 Common Logic Standard.

http://www.iso.org/iso/iso_catalogue/catalogue_tc/catalogue_detail.htm?csnumber=39175

This is a standard for semantic data and interchange that subsumes all the W3C efforts and provides a solid foundation for work.  There are ample examples available (from the work of Pat Hayes) to show how to map OWL to CL and from this you can get the representations for URI's (see worked on the Linked Data effort for example that would be a good pointer to some ideas).

Thanks!

Hi all,

I am currently working for the Brazilian Office of the Comptroller General (CGU) and right now I am involved in the open data initiative here in Brazil (which is one of our main goals in the Open Government Partnership - OGP). At this moment, we are creating documents that are going to drive how the different agencies should publish their data as open data in the Web. One of the things we will address in these documents is how to define the URI for the different ontologies we will be creating. I was hoping you could point me to the right direction on where I can find information on best practices to define URIs for ontologies in the Semantic Web. Is there some kind of standard for this?

Thanks,

Rommel
