I am very pleased to see this bubbling up this way. Several of us started a Building Services Performance ontolog group a few years back.  My vision was that it would address exactly these issues,

That effort turned into a more mundane cataloguing of spaces, and I lost interest, and fell into three years of smart energy.  It sounds from this thread, which that includes several of those original participants, that we are now ready to begin wrestling with this.

This is good.

I think a February conversation about how to produce a descriptive model of the problem system indicated by "connect energy, healthcare, emergency management, financial, and actually nature - the non man made aspects" would be useful. A result (caution, optimist) certainly would give the systemists, engineers and ontologists a grand challenge.

Likewise, it will highlight the semantics aspects and benefits of the situation somewhat responding to Deb's question, How to fix?

Such conversation will be more productive if we can get David Taylor (leading author of object technology) to participate. I will inquire.

Thanks, Deb and Jack

Recapping:

Jack asks: What % of your need is satisfied by the BIM working group?

Deb believes about 30%...of need, and full scale smart cities (as the CETC-Sofi team is attempting to formalize) 5%

Would a Feb. conversation be helpful to consider how to think about "Benchmarking" these terms?

Bob

For our industry needs about 30%, for full scale smart cities and the planet, less than 5%
