I sent a note about Cyc in what I thought was a private
conversation with Doug Skuce. But I did not realize that
there was a cc to Ontolog Forum in the note he sent me. (01)
In my note, I made a comment about Pat Hayes that was based
on a private conversation in 2004. I apologize for sending
that info to a public forum. (02)
Among other things, Skuce and I were discussing some issues
about Cyc and the reviews we had each written in 1993. That is
what led me to send him a note that AI Journal articles could
be downloaded for free. I also sent a shorter version of that
note to Ontolog Forum, but Skuce replied to the copy that went
to Ontolog. Then I replied to that. (03)

it's over 20 years old, the points in it are still relevant, and

In a conversation about my review, Doug Lenat said that it was
"fair but painful". What was painful is that the weaknesses
I criticized were ones that the Cyclers were still working on. (06)
Sad to say, researchers in AI and the Semantic Web are still
working on those same weaknesses today. (07)
