Chris,

There are many wrong things have happened in the history of man kind!

For example today is the 8th anniversary of the dreadful 9/11 day!  I was working in a high raised building two blocks from the Pentagon in Arlington!  The chaos was something no one will forget!

Even though India ( Hindu based land)  is a peaceful, somewhere along the history, the civilization developed a "Class" system! Certain Knowledge was passed on to certain class of people only!  Sanskrit, Veda and Upanishads, the rich Vedic knowledge was only taught to "Brahman Class" in a exclusive / seclusive way!  These were the people who performed the prayer rituals and learnt the Vedic knowledge and advised the rich aristocrats.   The other classes were punished severely if they tried to learn or have any education! There were not allowed to enter the certain section of the temples or houses, or scholastic areas!

In Mahabharata, the great Indian epic depicts the story of Karna who had to pay a thumb, after learning the archery from his guru, because he was brought up by a backword (?) class mother!

There are social, economical, racial, class,  gender based, religious discrimination and atrocities that has happened, that has destroyed or suppressed a whole race or gender or class of people!

Education / truth  alone help remove darkness around such atrocities!     Hindus celebrate Diwali,  like Christmas, a festival of light in symbolism to enlighten those that are in the dark!

I am glad that one of the leaders has apologized!
Pardon me if this is not the forum to express such opinion! This is just a response!

Prayers to those families who lost their loved ones!

Pavithra

I'd meant to include the following link in my previous msg to the
official apology yesterday by Gordon Brown on behalf of the UK
government for the country's horrifying and outrageous treatment of
Turing for his homosexuality.  This led directly to his tragic
suicide, depriving us of one of the century's greatest minds: http://www.number10.gov.uk/Page20571
.  Better late than never, I suppose.
