I at least intellectually understand the connection with Eastern
meditation, but I didn't realize it was part of kundalini. (04)

When I was in graduate school, the word was used by someone in the AI
"computer science" department to distinguish (pejoratively) the
treatment of "knowledge" in the Philosophy department from the treatment
of "knowledge" in the AI gang. And of course, it caught on. (That is,
like most of my pithy observations, it isn't original. :-)) (06)
The word is Greek, from "omphalos" (or -on, I'm not sure) = navel, and
"skepsis", which is a "nominalization" derived from skeptesthain = to
look (closely) at. Philosophers get "skeptic" from the same root. (07)
