Yes. I think it would be far more sensible to base social
classifications on latitude rather than longitude, and classify
people by how far they live from the equator. I myself am northern
temperate by birth but have affinity with equatorial cultures. (02)

There seems to be a genuine transatlantic difference of usage
regarding both the meaning and the offensiveness of 'oriental' : in
UK English it is both wider in application and also considered
reasonably PC. (05)
