Dear All (especially presenters at the ontology summit symposium),    (01)

1. Please note that the registration for on-site attendance to the
Apr-12&13 OntologySummit2012 workshop & symposium closes tomorrow
(Apr-6). Since the event is held at a US government facility,
pre-registration is MANDATORY (including organizers and presenters).
Therefore, if you plan to be there at NIST, and haven't yet
registered, please DO IT NOW! ... Remote participants should also
register (although there is no deadline) so we can prepare enough
resources to support everyone.
See:
http://ontolog.cim3.net/cgi-bin/wiki.pl?OntologySummit2012/WorkshopRegistration    (02)

2. We had a relatively short, but very productive session earlier
today. Full proceedings of this "Pre-symposium preparation &
Communique Review-II" session (including the chairs' slides,
in-session chat-transcript, and the audio recording of the entire
session) are now online. If you want to to revisit the details, or if
you had missed it for some reason, see:
http://ontolog.cim3.net/cgi-bin/wiki.pl?ConferenceCall_2012_04_05#nid397S    (03)

3. The near-final (but still developing) workshop/symposium program is
at: http://ontolog.cim3.net/cgi-bin/wiki.pl?OntologySummit2012_Symposium#nid36KJ    (04)

4. For those who will be speaking or presenting, please note that all
slides and materials (demo-video-clips, etc.) for the workshop &
symposium (i.e. things that need to be shared with on-site and remote
participants) needs to be emailed to the symposium co-chairs ("Ram
Sriram" <ram.sriram@xxxxxxxx> & "Michael Gruninger"
<gruninger@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxx>) and to myself <peter.yim@xxxxxxxx> by
end-of-day Monday Apr-9 (or at least a note to say you needed more
time, and provide me an ETA and what to expect ... this is important,
as I will start my travel on Tue 4/10, and my Internet access becomes
unpredictable until 4/12).    (05)

Note also, that slides should be in pdf format and with all slides numbered!    (06)

5. Please look over the page at:
http://ontolog.cim3.net/cgi-bin/wiki.pl?VirtualSpeakerSessionTips
... especially the section labeled: "For the SPEAKERS" if you will be
speaking or presenting. While we are mostly face-to-face during the
workshop/symposium, we do have a remote audience, and a many-times
larger asynchronous audience later; therefore, all the processes we
practice during virtual sessions will still be in effect during those
two days.    (07)

6. If you will be at NIST for the workshop and symposium in person,
please join us for the no host dinner on Apr-12 evening. Kindly
respond to the earlier post from Dr. Steven Ray - see:
http://ontolog.cim3.net/forum/ontology-summit/2012-04/msg00022.html    (08)

7. The Draft Communique is available online and your review and
suggestion (in the form of "change requests") is solicited by the
co-Lead Editors of the Communique. Kindly refer to the process
outlined in their posts (or as outlined in slide#7, 8 & 9 of their
presentation today -
http://ontolog.cim3.net/file/work/OntologySummit2012/OntologySummit2012_Communique/2012-04-05_draft-review/OntologySummit2012_pre-symposium-session_20120405.pdf
)    (09)

We'll look forward, together, to a great Symposium next week! ... if
you have any question, please post them to this thread.    (010)

Thanks & regards. =ppy    (011)

You are invited to join us this Thursday at the OntologySummit2012
pre-symposium virtual session.    (018)

The goal of this session is two fold. We want to spend some time on
preparing participants for and answering questions relating to the
Apr. 12&13 workshop and symposium. The rest (and the bulk) of the
session will be devoted to reviewing the OntologySummit2012_Communique
draft that the co-Lead Editors is crafting (and will publish by
4-Apr-2012), based on the inputs of all track champions and
participants of last week's session. Any "request for change" to this
draft received today and prior to the closing of the comment period
(which is set at end-of-day tomorrow, 6-Apr-2012) will then be
considered for inclusion by the Lead Editors, who will then come up
with a final draft of the Communiqué that they will publish by Apr. 9,
2012, getting all of us ready for the OntologySummit2012_Symposium.    (019)

********************* Details ************************    (032)

This is our 7th Ontology Summit, a joint initiative by ONTOLOG, NIST,
NCOR, NCBO, IAOA & NCO_NITRD with the support of our co-sponsors. The
theme adopted for this Ontology Summit is: "Ontology for Big Systems."    (033)

The principal goal of the summit is to bring together and foster
collaboration between the ontology community, systems community, and
stakeholders of some of "big systems." Together, the summit
participants will exchange ideas on how ontological analysis and
ontology engineering might make a difference, when applied in these
"big systems."  We will aim towards producing a series of
recommendations describing how ontologies can create an impact; as
well as providing illustrations where these techniques have been, or
could be, applied in domains such as bioinformatics, electronic health
records, intelligence, the smart electrical grid, manufacturing and
supply chains, earth and environmental, e-science, cyberphysical
systems and e-government. As is traditional with the Ontology Summit
series, the results will be captured in the form of a communique, with
expanded supporting material provided on the web.    (034)

The general format of the Ontology Summit comprises of a series of
both virtual and face-to-face activities that span about 3 months
(January through March or April each year). These activities include a
vigorous three-month online discourse on the theme of the Summit,
virtual panel discussions, research activities, and so on, which will
culminate in a two-day face-to-face workshop and symposium at NIST in
Gaithersburg, Maryland, USA on April 12 & 13, 2012. Each year, we
collaboratively author and publish a Summit Communique to offer a
message from the Summit participants to the world-at-large as a
signature activity of the Ontology Summit series.    (035)

These sessions, like all Ontolog virtual events, are open and free of
charge. Anyone who is interested, or (better still) who may have
something to contribute, is welcome. Please refer to event details on
the session pages, to which the hyperlink is given above, where you
will find session agenda, conference call dial-in, slides and other
pertinent information. Feel free to forward this invitation along to
colleagues (or your own community mailing lists) who may also find
these sessions to be of interest.    (036)

*RSVP* by emailing Peter Yim at <peter.yim@xxxxxxxx> offline (or add
yourself directly to the session page if you are already an Ontolog or
Ontology Summit community member) so that we can prepare enough
resources to support everyone. [Please state clearly the date of the
session you are registering for in your email.] ... All respondents
will be subscribed (if they aren't already so) to the
[ontology-summit] mailing list so they are participate in the virtual
discourse.    (037)

These sessions will be recorded and made available in a publicly
accessible archive. Therefore, before participating, please make sure
you are cognizant of our IPR policy (ref:
http://ontolog.cim3.net/cgi-bin/wiki.pl?WikiHomePage#nid32 ).    (038)

OntologySummit2012 Workshop & Symposium at NIST (Gaithersburg,
