John, (01)
Of course OWL was designed for AI work. The entire description logic paradigm
comes out of AI. And it's been used for NLP too. (02)
I just note a later message talking about PR-OWL, which I'll comment on shortly. (03)
Thanks,
Leo (04)

The short answer is no. (09)
OWL was deliberately limited in capability, and it was designed for
processing RDF data. (010)
AI projects such as IBM's system, Cyc, our VivoMind work, and many
other systems for NLP use much richer and more complex knowledge
representation and reasoning systems than OWL. And they use far
more efficient data representations than RDF. (011)
OWL was never designed for AI or NLP. (012)
