Dear Chaim,    (01)

Thank you for your response.    (02)

1. "Copyright" is not the issue (even the so called "copyleft" work
are copyrighted to the author of the work)
... rather, the real issue is: whether or not the work is "Free" and "Open."    (03)

The key is how the work is being licensed for use by others. Our IPR
Policy (http://ontolog.cim3.net/cgi-bin/wiki.pl?WikiHomePage#nid32 )
does cite relevant references. You may want to test your work
accordingly, and advise if your work meets the said "open" criterion.    (04)

2. It is one thing when John Sowa, without being solicted, bring up a
new topic (and cites Professor Vitanyi's paper "Automatic Meaning
Discovery Using Google") and when ontolog-member-X brings up his/her
own work for critical discourse by the community.    (05)

2.1. for one ... X is potentially "self-promoting" and hence, breaches
our membership contribution policy of:
//
unless specifically requested/solicited by other community member(s),
please make sure any commercial- or self-promotion material or
reference are strictly limited to one's namesake page or a short
signature block, and nowhere else as far as our open collaborative
work environment is concerned.
//
(ref. http://ontolog.cim3.net/cgi-bin/wiki.pl?WikiHomePage#nidLMK )    (06)

2.2 two ... if that work being discussed turns out to be an non-
"free" or "open" product, X is potentially making a
"commercial-promotion" of that product (or technology, etc.). In
commercial terms, that is usually called "advertising."
... There are plenty of venues for advertising, and we have strive to
make sure that the Ontolog collaborative work environment (which also
dubs as our collective knowledge repository) is free from
"advertisement."    (07)

3. More important, though, is the *intent* of all these policies --
we are trying to have a place where the community could freely share
knowledge, and collaborate to advance our charter (ref.
http://ontolog.cim3.net/cgi-bin/wiki.pl?WikiHomePage#nidB ), so that
the end result from that collaboration can be further shared and
enhanced, and thus bootstrapping, and setting into motion a virtuous
circle for the chartered work, through the generosity of our
membership.    (08)

If and when the community's bandwidth mistakenly goes into advancing a
"proprietary" product/technology, that intent is no longer being
upheld, and the community gets exploited towards providing pro bono
-consultation, -research or -development for the said "proprietary"
product/technology, which, obviously, is NOT what Ontolog is intended
for.    (09)

4. As previously discussed, we do waive our IPR Policies, on
occasions, so as (for example) to allow for an across-the-spectrum
(both open and proprietary) survey of the technology landscape. For
anyone with proprietary products/technologies that they want to review
with the community, those would be the appropriate circumstances to
bring them up up for discussion.    (010)

Thanks & regards. =ppy    (011)
