Signal/noise varies rather chaotically on ontolog-forum, but the list
has frequently been a locus of timely, exciting, and authoritative
discussion for real world ontological engineers. It is an
unfortunate side-effect of open subscription policies that good lists
tend to become victims of their own success. Fortunately, email
filters can ensure that (for the most part) you only see messages
from list members whose contributions you yourself find valuable. I
would therefore strongly encourage everyone, rather than taking the
Draconian step of leaving the ontolog-forum list, to use filters not
only to shunt ontolog-forum mail into its own folder (regarding
which, as Peter suggests, see http://ontolog.cim3.net/cgi-bin/wiki.pl?
DealingWithMailingListTraffic) but also to use them ruthlessly to
clobber messages from list members whose postings you find off topic
or otherwise annoying or disruptive. This allows the list to retain
its open membership policies while allowing users the freedom to
tailor its content to their liking. (02)
