I received an offline comment that adaptations of
CLCE to other languages, such as Chinese, might not
be possible because those languages are based on
different ways of thinking with different inference
patterns.    (01)

My reply was that Chinese is very logical. There is,
however, one feature that Chinese lacks -- the ability
to state counterfactuals such as    (02)

If George Bush had been born in China,

The Chinese language does not have the word "would"
or any equivalent for talking about a counterfactual
statement -- but neither does Common Logic.    (04)

Are there any native Chinese speakers on this list
who might be willing to comment on this point?    (05)
