We had a an absolutely marvelous kick-off session for the
"Database and Ontology" mini-series yesterday. The briefings from
Dr. Matthew West, Dr. Tatiana Malyuta and Dr. Leo Obrst provided
very diversified perspectives to a subject matter that is of
great interest; especially so to those who are doing system/data
modeling and architecture, enterprise integration, and
database-driven applications. Despite the different vantage
points, the conclusions were remarkably similar -- that the
introduction and adoption of the ontology layer of abstraction
will give us a whole new level of capabilities and improvement
unattainable previously. (01)
Our appreciations go out to the three expert panelists for
preparing their most wonderful briefings, and for sharing their
insights with us. In particular, we thank Dr. West for
championing this mini-series program. And, as always, thanks to
all participants for joining us and for contributing to the rich
discussion we had after the presentations. (02)

P.S. *Unfortunately, the recording quality was less than ideal --
we had some echoes throughout, especially at the opening (it
improved significantly going in); also, the last 20 minutes or so
of the discussion did not get recorded. I've already tried my
best in post-processing (that also explains why I wasn't able to
post this last night.) The audio is quite intelligible, though.
Anyhow, considering the fact that we had 20~30 people from all
over the US, and from the UK, Austria, Turkey and India (with
quite a few of you connecting through VoIP), it's already a small
wonderful that we could have had this virtual session (without
anyone having to buy a plane ticket) and was even able to capture
