Ontolog community,    (01)

Peter Yim recently posted a message from Mark
Musen, where Mark asked for letters of support
for the renewal of the grants supporting the
Protégé system (see
http://ontolog.cim3.net/forum/ontolog-forum/2006-03/msg00032.html).    (02)

This topic was raised at Ontolog's regular
planning sessions. The consensus of those
present was that Ontolog should draft a letter of
support. Towards that end, we'd like to try
using the mailing list to brainstorm ideas and
draft language for the letter.    (03)

Please reply to this message by Wednesday
(2006.04.19) with any ideas and thoughts that you
might have in support of Mark's efforts. Mark
provides a list of specific topics and questions in his posting.    (04)

Brief snippets of content are also welcome. For example:    (05)

     "Protege is now tremendously effective
across many domains . It provides useful
and useable tools which make ontology
real. I've had several doctoral candidates
     who's dissertations were basically leveraged
by Protégé's ability to represent
their key topics. Protege has become an
essential element in our research
infrastructure and is rapidly becoming one
in business as well. If Protégé and
its staff were to go away, there would be
great difficulties in making forward
progress in many, many domains."    (06)

An editorial team will consolidate the
community's input and draft Ontolog's formal
response to Mark, who can forward it with others
received to The United States National Library of
Medicine. Needless to say, if anyone wants to
participate in the actual drafting of the letter,
your assistance would be greatly appreciated.    (07)

Also, as submissions on letterhead would be
preferred, kudos would be given to anyone who
would take it upon themselves to come up with a
letterhead design for Ontolog.    (08)
