Some points that our discussion has come back to several times: (01)
1. Model for lexicon entries (general agreement).
Entries ought to be short (500 words at most)
They ought to disambiguate;
They ought to contain examples from the literature, web, etc., of the
term in use. (02)
2. Scope of the lexicon (strongly-felt views that conflict)
Scope should include terms defined elsewhere unambiguously for
beginners,
creation of a common reference point for discussion.
OR
Scope should be limited to terms about which there is ambiguity or are
for
other reasons difficult to define. (03)
3. Crowd-sourcing (differences articulated)
Open discussion up to all of IAOA membership
OR
Restrict discussion to members of the lexicon working group (04)
4. Availability of product (not discussed in depth)
Issues:
A. ``Open source,'' or, more likely, GNU FDL or some Creative
Commons license
-> Presumably, unrestricted access
B. Restricted to IAOA members: access requires a member ID
login.
-> Issue then of what license the restricted lexicon
will be offered under
-> Another issue: how will lexicon serve as a general
resource for resolving ambiguities
etc., if access to it is restricted to
membership (05)
Suggested course of action for the present:
1. Proceed with short entries as described in 1 above.
2. Start work on the more difficult terms, as everyone agrees that
these need to be included in the lexicon
3. Collaborate amongst one another until a substantial number of terms
have been defined, then
address licensing & access issues. (06)
