... this is an exchange that may be of interest to those who are
struggling with handling the volume of traffic generated by the level
of activities of the ongoing Ontology Summit.    (02)

The cited reference at:
http://ontolog.cim3.net/forum/ontolog-admin/2012-01/msg00002.html
is of particular relevance too.    (03)

Jim,    (06)

Thank you for the message.    (07)

There are three thresholds that trigger the mailing list system
("mailman" is what we use) to send out a digest:
- every 24 hours
- when it has accumulated 25 "new" messages
- when the accumulated "new" messages reached a certain size    (08)

The fact that most of our contributors make top posts, write fairly
long messages, and retained a lot of the earlier parts of the thread
for context, has made messages quite longer (and big). Hence the more
numerous digest despatches that you are seeing. On your request, I
have just raised that size threshold from 30KB to 150KB. Let's see if
this helps. (Honestly, you are the first to make such a request.)    (09)

That said, rather than "following the discussion threads" via the
delivered digests, I would suggest you look into doing so via the html
message archives (which are available in monthly indices, by date and
by thread) at: http://ontolog.cim3.net/forum/ontology-summit/ ...
like,
- http://ontolog.cim3.net/forum/ontology-summit/2012-01/index.html ... or,
- http://ontolog.cim3.net/forum/ontology-summit/2012-01/threads.html    (010)

Please take a look at this recent exchange too, where I suggested to
one of our participants to use a local mail filter on a 'normal
delivery mode', instead of going with the 'digest mode' (or more
importantly, instead of 'unsubscribing'.)
- see: http://ontolog.cim3.net/forum/ontolog-admin/2012-01/msg00002.html    (011)

This is especially relevant in your case, since, as you would have
noticed, there is quite a bit of discussion about Cyc that has been
going on. I'm sure, given your Cyc experience, the community would
love to have you chime in (and you can't really do it well, and
maintain the threads, if you are working off a digest.) Please
consider that.    (012)

Thanks & regards. =ppy    (013)

p.s. hope you don't mind my sharing this exchange with the rest of the
community. =ppy
