There are two general references that may be valuable in laying the foundation for a large scale systems design, development, production deployment, operation and disposal ontology.

The first reference (systems engineering process ontology) has already been mentioned but I would like to highlight this one again.

"Model-Based Systems Engineering", A. Wayne Wymore, 1993 CRC Press: Appendix One.  Appendix One of this book presents a system design language that is well developed and very comprehensive.  Great place to start ontology development work.

The other two references are from the Naval Postgraduate School and focus on describing a system using requirements.

"A Study of Current  Practices of Requirements Traceability in Systems Development", Ramesh B. ,Powers T, Stubbs C., and Edwards M., 1993 -- Monterey: Naval Post Graduate School.

"A Model of Requirements Traceability to Support Systems Development", Ramesh B., Harrington G., Rondeau K., and Edwards M., 1993 -- Monterey: Naval Post Graduate School.

Have fun,

Joe

My interest for the engineering tracks is to establish dialog in the Summit
not only to identify engineering problems for which ontology can offer
solutions.  But to go beyond that to dialog on what ontology results and
methodology can be applied and look at use cases for its application. Many
people in the industry of developing and using engineered systems are aware
that ontology may provide value to many of their problems and issues.  But
the industry position is what ontology technology can help, how do we use
it, what are the benefits, and what will it cost. At least this has always
been the management response when I have taken proposals regarding ontology
forward in industry.

If this did not go to the general interest list, someone give me a pointer
to the right one.
