[ontology-summit] Proceedings of the Ontology Summit 2008 Launch Event

On Thursday, February 7^th, 2008, the highly productive launch of this year’s Ontology Summit took place. At the launch, four committees that have been formed to support the summit were introduced. Their principal responsibilities are:

 

·         Organizing Committee, charged with the overall responsibility for the summit

·         Content Committee to manage the ongoing discussion beginning with the launch and lasting until the face-to-face meeting in April

·         Logistics Committee overseeing the arrangements for the face-to-face meeting

·         Advisory Committee responsible for outreach and liaison with other relevant organizations

 

The five initial discussion threads were also identified, along with those responsible for tracking and synthesizing the discusions:

 

•       Communiqué and Mission Statement

•       Synthesis by the Organizing Committee

•       Ontology Repository Architecture

•       Synthesis by Michelle Raymond and Ravi Sharma

•       Ontology of Ontologies

•       Synthesis by Michael Gruninger and Pat Hayes

•       Quality / Gatekeeping

•       Synthesis by Barry Smith (co-champion was solicited)

•       State of the Art Repository Work

•       Synthesis by Frank Olken

 

There was strong involvement from those on the call, and everyone is encouraged to join in the ongoing technical discussions that will be taking place on the [ontology-summit] mailing list.
