I was reacting primarily to the Christian view of god, which requires one to
believe that the same entity who created the entire universe is also intimately
concerned with human lives and emotions (eg He loves all of us, He sent His
only begotten son to die to save us from sin, etc..) With minor variations,
these ideas are apparently sincerely believed by a clear majority of adult
Americans and a large fraction of the population of Europe. (04)
