Dear Rich,    (01)

In the United States (and most countries) copyright is automatic upon
the creation of an original work by an author. Whether or not a work
is marked "copyrighted" or whether the process of registering such
with the Copyright Office, has little to do with the author's rights
(it may put the copyright holder in a better position if litigation
arises, but that is not the subject of this discussion.)    (02)

Others can use what is on this [ontolog-forum] list because its
content is subject to an "open" use license as detailed under our IPR
Policy (ref. http://ontolog.cim3.net/cgi-bin/wiki.pl?WikiHomePage#nid32
). That is exactly why we should be very careful not include content
that may constitute an infringement of other people's copyrights ...
and that burden is on the contributor.    (03)

IANAL ... but, unless the two lists where you copied your material
from, are also subject to an open use license, your re-publication of
their content should constitute an infringement. The substantiality of
the work that you re-published should probably also have disqualified
you from "fair use." (ref.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fair_use#Amount_and_substantiality ).    (04)

My suggestions, therefore ...    (05)

(i) please author your own work;    (06)

(ii) cite a link to other people's work, and not copy them over
(especially when you are not sure.)    (07)

Let's move this conversation offline ... (although, honestly speaking,
a legal professional should be consulted if we want to go further with
the discussion anyway.)    (08)

Thanks & regards. =ppy
