Dear close and distant colleagues, fellow citizens of internet

I present to you the Neurorganon (http://neurorganon.org). The term is a portmanteau whose meaning is derived from the blending of two words, ‘neuro’ and ‘organon’. A neuron cell is the basic unit of the nervous system; similarly the ‘concept’ term can play the role of the basic unit in a human information management system. Organon is the instrument of organizing, sharing and navigating information space based on the concept unit.

Neurorganon is an online presentation and demonstration of an attempt to define a conceptual framework that emphasizes on the upper level ontology and the structural design patterns of its schema. Neurorganon is also a reference framework for the knowledge representation modeling area

(see http://neurorganon.org/Knowledge_Representation_Model.html).

It makes the claim of keeping distinct and independent the three layers of data modeling; i.e. implementation layer, logical layer, and conceptual layer.

The current online version of Neurorganon is fully utilizing CmapTools of Florida Institute for Human and Machine cognition. More than three hundred terms and information resources from the fields of computer science, mathematics and philosophy are linked to the concept maps created with this tool. At the implementation level for a web of concepts, Neurorganon has a fresh review of the topic map data model and examples of software design patterns with the Wandora software (see http://neurorganon.org/TMDM_Association_Art-Event-Pattern_01.html). Topic map data model is presented here as a test case to illustrate the three separable, independent layers of data modeling (see http://neurorganon.org/TMDM.html).

Neurorganon summarizes the theory behind data modeling and upper level ontology in a unique and intuitive way (see NULO http://neurorganon.org/Neurorganon_Upper_Level_Ontology.html). The domain expert may find new ground for research and development by analyzing the relations among central ideas and key concepts, and the newcomer is challenged with a domain map that hopefully assists in understanding the basic terms and the overall picture of the subject in question.

I envisage a world wide web of information domains with relational “highways”, with main “roads” and “streets” and “alleys” to link “countries” and “cities” and “villages” and “houses”; an internet with concept maps, like a medical atlas, to explore new or founded scientific domains. I am dreaming of a world wide web with higher concepts as the vehicle of communication; i.e. events, processes, activities, procedures, facts, persons, objects, locations, time, reasons, results where they serve the purpose, not the content of communication, and where information resources play a secondary role (see http://neurorganon.org/Concept_vs_Semantic.html).

Your comments and feedback will be mostly appreciated at this stage.

Kind regards

Athanassios I. Hatzis, PhD
