I think the paper refers to 'knowledge markets' in relation to cartels (which are oligopolies rather than monopolies)
(and not to monopolies of knowledge in general, as I gather you are suggesting below)

I find some of it useful as it explains at least in part some of the maladie of the research 'industry', irrespective
of whether I may agree or not with other contents of the paper, or other opinions of the researcher in question on other matters, it makes a point

(will  be offline  trying to finish some papers for a few of days in case I dont respond to further threads)
