FYI - I proposed this for the Oreilly eTech conference in March 2008. If
anyone else has ideas the call for papers is still open. I would like to
include some work from this group if this gets accepted.    (01)

Proposal Information
====================
Title: Ontology and Semantics for the new Internet    (07)

Conference: O'Reilly Emerging Technology Conference 2008    (08)

Type/Duration: 45 Minute Conference Session or Panel    (09)

Audience Level: Intermediate    (010)

Audience Type: Architects, developers, modelers, general IT staff    (011)

Description:
A lot of discussion has occurred with respect to the semantic web. While
work in ISO, IEC and the W3C continues to evolve, it is somewhat difficult
for developers and architects to incorporate theory into practical
applications. The session will delve into the subject of ontological
research and discuss some of the top issues confronting the new era of
internet interoperability.    (012)

Attendees will learn about ontology, taxonomy, folksonomy, semantics and how
they all fit together. Developers will learn about practical steps they can
take today with an outlook for the trends of the future. Those who
implement folksonomies or other tag based semantic declaration mechanisms
can also benefit from a greater understanding of how these may be eventually
linked to some First Order Logic (FOL) and how such systems may evolve into
self-adapting software systems capable of monitoring resource-semantic
interactions.    (013)

Description Short:
This session will summarize the state of the art semantic theories and
reconcile practical applications of ontology, taxonomy and semantic research
into a package most IT workers can digest. The ontological components
within the evolving field of computation intelligence could have significant
impact on folksonomies in the near term future. This short session will
highlite many of the trends and discuss where semantic web research may
lead.    (014)

Speaker bio: Duane Nickull is a Sr. Technical Evangelist for Adobe Systems.
He works in the fields of Enterprise Architecture and Computational
Intelligence including many standards efforts around interoperability. He is
chair of the OASIS SOA Reference Model Technical Committee and has written    (015)
