Your points are well taken.    (02)

But the field of ontology involves so many different disciplines
that there is very little common ground among the participants.
Various people feel comfortable talking about logic, databases,
philosophy, artificial intelligence, linguistics, computer science,
mathematics, software engineering, and different applications.
There is very little common vocabulary that everybody shares.    (03)

That's a reasonable approach. But the people who subscribe to this
list come from so many different backgrounds that the words in that
in that paragraph have different meanings (or sometimes no obvious
meaning) for the various groups.    (05)

Such a manual would be very helpful. But before people decide
that ontology is the solution, they have to be clear about what
problem they are trying to solve.    (07)

I think that a major reason for the confusion and lack of clear
direction is that different people have different problems in mind,
and they're all hoping that ontology will be the answer.    (08)

Before we start specifying the solution, we should get a clear
understanding of the problem we're trying to solve.    (09)
